Hi there, readers! My name is Emily and I’m currently 35 weeks pregnant with my second child! I know lots of you are pregnant or in the trenches daily with little ones as you read this, so I want you to know how my heart goes out to each and every one of you! I get it, I really do!
Emily, with her two favorite guys, shortly after she found out she was pregnant again!
To give you a little background: I found out last June while back in my hometown visiting my parents with my toddler son that we were expecting another baby! My husband didn’t come on the visit with us, so I then had the pain-staking task of deciding if/how to tell my husband we were expecting while we were apart. I’ll just go ahead and cut to the chase. I’m not someone who is very good at holding onto a big secret, so the option of waiting until we were together again to tell him was NOT an option at all really. I decided after a few calculated minutes of staring at the positive pregnancy test in the bathroom that I would do the only logical, mature thing and text him a picture of the freshly peed-on test (see totally normal, just like I said!) And just because I couldn’t bare the thought of not hearing his reaction, I decided to text him the picture WHILE we were on the phone chatting. It went a little something like this:
Me: “Hi babe, how’s your day going?”
Husband: “Oh fine, ready for it to be over.” (Me trying to sound cool and calm while I fidget with my phone and text him the picture…)
Me: “Oh yeah, well you only have a few more hours… Hey, what’s that beeping sound on your end?”
Husband: “I got a text, I think.”
Me: “Why don’t you check it? I’ll wait…” (Husband rifles through phone and pulls up text from me.)
Husband: “….No…. way…..”
So, from the very beginning, this pregnancy has been a bit… unconventional, let’s say. The following months unfolded with our family finding out we were being transferred across the country in the middle of my pregnancy, as well as finding out at 14 weeks pregnant that I had to get my appendix removed in an emergency appendectomy. It has been quite a roller coaster to say the least. Oh, and my first child was born premature at 34 weeks gestation, so this time around I’ve had the… ahem… joy, (yes, let’s call it joy!) of having weekly progesterone injections to try and prevent another preterm birth.
But, even after going through all that, I’m so thankful and excited to be sitting here at 35 weeks plump anticipating the arrival of this new little one. Oh, and did I mention? This little one is a girl! Woohoo!
I hope you will tune in each week so I can fill you in on the updates of my last few weeks of pregnancy, my labor and delivery and balancing life as a mom of 2 little ones under the age of 3. And I’d love to hear from you! I know, somedays (well most days) can feel like a struggle as a mom, but there are so many things to celebrate. And hey, if nothing else, we can laugh together at the craziness, right?
A little about Emily: Emily is married to her college sweetheart, Jeff and is mom to a 2-year-old little boy named Boone and soon-to-be-born unnamed little girl! Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, her husband’s job moves their family around quite a bit. In the past six years, they’ve lived in Kansas, Tennessee, Calgary, Canada, Colorado and now currently reside in Kentucky. Prior to kids, she worked as a staff writer for a newspaper, but now she focuses on freelance writing in between chasing Boone around and exploring her ever-changing hometowns.
